EBICS becomes international standard

October 6, 2008 - EBICS (Electronic Banking Internet Communication Standard) is the new multi-bank standard for electronic data interchange between corporates and banks in Germany. It was specified by the Zentraler Kreditausschuss (ZKA) operated by the central associations of the German banking industry.
Currently the French Banking Association discusses to adopt EBICS in France as the new communications standard. The standard version EBICS 2.4 offers technical solutions for some of the French banks requirements such as the enlargement of identification fields (customer ID, user ID and host ID) to 35 digits, as well as two new order types for upload and download of files. Furthermore, the new EBICS version 2.4 describes the usage of certificates. At present it is common practice for German corporates and banks to exchange cryptographic keys directly between each other.
